It might be summer, but it’s actually the perfect time to start picking up bits for autumn for your wardrobe. The shops are already clearing out last year’s stock and making space for new stuff, which means decent discounts on things you’d usually end up paying full price for. As much as you might be enjoying the sunshine right now and not ready to think about winter warmers, here are a few reasons why you should!
Spreading out the cost
Waiting until it’s cold always ends the same way when it comes to winter clothes shopping.
Everything costs more, and you end up trying to buy everything in one go. Things like leather boots and proper winter coats can be so expensive, and then you have everything else to think about on top. From your base layers like thermal socks, leggings and tops to your more trendy pieces, jeans, accessories and more. There’s a lot to buy if you need to start from scratch so definitely buy what you can now if possible. If you’ve significantly changed in weight since last winter or have adopted a new style you’ll probably need to buy most things new. And even if you’re good at reusing things each year, eventually your old winter clothes will wear out and need replacing, so double check you’re not at that point now!
Less panic, more choice
Most people wait until the weather forces them to go shopping but that’s when all the decent stuff’s already been picked over. The sizes are gone, the nice colours are nowhere to be found, and you end up settling for something just because it’s there. Shopping ahead gives you more time to actually find pieces you like. There’s no pressure to grab whatever’s left, and you can look properly and see what works with the stuff you’ve already got. While high street shops wont have cold weather clothes out on display right now, if you’re shopping online you’ll be able to find just about everything.
You can be fussier
When there’s no rush, you’re less likely to buy things that don’t really suit you or don’t last past one winter. You’ve got time to check the materials of the clothes, try on different things, and actually think about whether you’ll wear it. No panicking in a shop with your arms full of coats because it’s suddenly freezing outside. You can hold off for a discount or wait for something better instead of grabbing the first thing that looks warm.
No reason to wait
There’s nothing that says you have to start shopping the minute the season changes. It makes more sense to get ahead while the shops are quieter and the prices are better. Whether it’s a proper coat or boots that’ll last through snow and rain, getting them now saves the stress later. And if you end up with something you actually like wearing, even better.
