Does Artificial Intelligence have a place in a business environment?

The rise in the quality of artificial intelligence can’t be ignored as it is everywhere recently. Sadly AI gets a bad image due to so much media surrounding the negative usage of Artificial intelligence. There are lots of positive aspects to the use of AI also but sadly we mainly see the negative. We have all seen funny videos created with AI. Just yesterday I saw a hilarious two headed orca video someone was trying to pass off as a real whale sighting. These are the kind of videos and posts that the general public are seeing day to day that make them worried about the use of artificial intelligence. The biggest outcry about AI is its use in a creative format but it can actually be used in a great way for businesses that don’t need to be creative and need to be more uniform in their delivery.

What exactly is AI?

AI is short for artificial intelligence which relates to a type of technology that can be used to do activities that usually require human thought such as problem solving, learning, being able to recognise a pattern, processing large amounts of data and quality control.

Why does it have a bad reputation?

In the media there’s a heavy emphasis on artificial intelligence being negative because it is being used in a creative capacity and taking away work from artists who put a lot of time and effort into creating anything from art work to logos. However the detailing isn’t quite there yet and it’s easy to spot AI created content. It’s become especially noticed in people using AI to write books. In this kind of environment i agree with the creative industry that the use of AI isn’t needed however there are industries it can thrive in.

How is this beneficial to businesses?

With companies such as Industrial Vision Systems they work with artificial intelligence in a way that can help improve production lines and many more aspects of businesses. Experts are able to programme machines to have the intelligence to be able to have exceptional quality control, sorting facilities and guidance. This enables the business to cut costs, streamline production, cut down on wastage and produce the best product in a timely manner.

Not only this but the AI can also analyse and produce the data that is precise and traceable which helps make effective decisions about products in faster timelines. AI is able to analyse and quality control products at a much quicker pace than humans and has less room for error. For example the ability to check 600 parts per minute which is just impossible for a human. From a manufacturers stand point this is vital in meeting deadlines and making sure every product is of the highest most effective quality.

This kind of production is especially useful in the medical environment where the need is so high and the ability to keep costs down is most needed. Not only that but the ability to detect flaws quicker can help save lives.
