These days even when we go out we aren’t connecting with anything but our phones. The man cave had a great idea to have a pea and pie social evening to connect people together to come have great food, good company and some games along the way.
The man cave is a family run cafe located in Rotherham. A welcoming place to stop for a brew and some good hearty food. Usually like most cafes they are open Monday to Friday 8am until 2pm. So a great place to stop for breakfast or lunch before shopping because it is just around the corner from Meadow Hall. Occasionally they are open later for ticketed events which are well worth the money.
When we heard about a pie and pea social evening we had to go show some support. The first thing you notice about the man cave is the warm welcome from Shawn and his family. There is a lot of passion and love poured into not just a cafe but a welcome retreat.
There is so much to explore in one building and you will have a whole host of fun themed tables to choose from. My favourite is the Vespa for two but they are all equally as fun from skateboarding, racing and the army table we were seated at. You will find yourself constantly wanting to look around and look at the amazing collection.
We came as a quad and were seated with a lovely pair of friends. The whole point of the evening is to meet new people relax and enjoy yourself. We quickly began chatting over rounds of tea. Then the food came and let me tell you the portions are huge! The pies are all homemade and packed full of meat too. The pastry is light and tasty, Shawn's secret recipe (believe me we asked) and the pie itself is massive.
Served with a generous portion of chips, mushy peas and gravy. Hendon’s relish a local favourite for which I had never tried to be fair but complemented the pie. All at a bargain price of £14.95!
Our hosts were attentive, kind and fun. Our table even won the quiz and there were dominos and cards for everyone to play. You can tell Shawn and his family are passionate about motorbikes, food and spending time with people.
If you’re in the area be sure to go check them out!
