Ideas For A Friday Night Out

Hey Cats,

If you’re the kind of person who’s found yourself going out on Friday nights multiple times since you hit the grand old number 18 milestone, what you get up to can become a bit stale. We all have different experiences when it comes to the dance floor, but busting out some of our own moves tires us all completely! Sometimes it gets a little too expensive as well, with travel and drink costs adding up quickly, especially if you live farther out then your friends. Read on for some fun and interesting activities to get up to on a night out that’s a cry away from the usual nightclub.

If you absolutely want to go out:

Going out is it’s own brand of fun alone. However, having a few different ideas about what you can get up to when you hit the town is a surefire way to keep it from becoming a ‘same old’ situation. Save up some money for a real experience you want to have and try a few of the ideas below.

1. Find a different kind of bar to party in

Plenty of alternative hangouts are available if you know where to look. Smaller areas have their own quaint little places, often with a mix and match design and just the right blend of a drink to cake ratio for a lot of us. If you’re lucky enough to live in mainstream metropolis areas like London, hitting up a place such as Bunga Bunga, a bar in covent garden is a great way to give yourself a different idea of booming music and stylistic decor. These kind of bars will offer a less traditional setup, with a different feel enriched with culture, so much so that you’ll often feel like you’re stepping into another country. In your mind, you’re guaranteed to remember some element of the time you spent there!

2. Hit up a pub quiz

This is an age old classic but has that timeless element to it. Pub quizzes never get boring due to the amount of questions quiz masters can come up with, and special rounds like a picture or music quiz is a staple of the experience. Make a group and catch a table, and order in as many drinks as you like to really spice up your answer sheet! Pubs are often a little cheaper when it comes to ordering a pint as well. Usually these quizzes are held with charity in mind so it might be a couple of quid on the door to participate, but it’s all for a good cause.

3. Get your skates on!

This can be quite a romantic option if you’re with the right company, with plenty of opportunity to hold onto each other and sweep your partner off their feet. Otherwise, it’s a great way to spend time with your friends that’s full of laughter if you’re not very good at keeping your balance! Just remember to balance on your toes like a penguin if you’re entirely new to the experience.

If not, try staying in:

We start to understand as we get a little bit older that we don’t always have to go out. It’s lovely from time to time, but sometimes the energy and mood is a bit low, so trying to force your party side out is harder. Below are a few tips on how to make a fun and creative night out of a couple of ideas, some elbow grease, and an empty room.

1. Have a gaming night

You don’t have to be nerdy to enjoy a good game with a friend or two. Either break out a chess or checkers board, or turn on the console and slot in your favourite multiplayer games. You can make a competition out of the whole thing, and take a shot every time you suffer a lost piece or death in game! Scary games are their own brand of art and banding together to take on the latest monster is a great bonding exercise. Pac-man score tables are a great ranking to prove who is the best gamer out of your circle. Use this power wisely however!

2. Make a home bar in your living room

This is a pitch perfect way to liven up your evening. Make some cocktails with each other and toast to your great night in! This is a good way to hone some of your martini skills and really branch out with your alcohol tastes. Mix and match those chocolates drops with some tequila and learn what really tingles your tastebuds. Print off some recipes and stick them up on the wall behind you, then move a table into the centre of the room and host a night out at home. You can even plug a karaoke machine in for some drunk crooning if the mood calls for it.

3. Turn off the TV and hold a stand up show

Which one out of you and your friends is the funniest? Are any of you able to flex your improv muscles? Switching off the outside world for a while and having a good belly laugh together with local tales of your weekly antics is a fantastic idea to spend time together, and is one of the most fun options on this list! Create a mini stage out of a few boxes or winding a wire in a circle, and put on some upbeat entry music to announce the arrival of each ‘comedian.’ Have some heckling shouts ready on the side to really motivate or tease whoever’s on the stand.

Friday night is a special time in all our hearts, with work over for the week and the weekend right around the corner. Celebrate your own way in style with some easy and even cheap alternatives to the staple of grinding on the dance floor. Alternatively, use any of these ideas on a free evening midweek, just to split up the rough feel of the daily grind.

Simply Be Beach Wishlist

Hey Cats,

I have hardly looked at clothes lately as I have been in a bit of a funk but I feel like I am getting my love of fashion back and have been keeping a keen eye on whats on sale lately. I am just lusting after a holiday so I thought I would make that want even more by putting together a beach wish list for a must have outfit to hit the sea hopefully somewhere with lots of sun and cocktails. Having always been a fan of Simply Be I just knew I could find the perfect beach outfit there.

So picture this we just got an all inclusive invite to the beach the sun is beating and the waves are crashing what is the first thing we need A BIKINI of course and I just adore this black high waisted number from Fig Leaves. I love the design that gives lots of support but still looks super cute and glamorous. It looks crazy comfortable and I could just see myself splashing around in the sea without fear of a nip slip or worse losing the bottoms when caught in a wave. Trust me these are the kind of thing that would happen to me,

Although we all love sun bathing and getting some of the natural happiness from those sun rays it is also super important to remember the sun cream and grab a parasol if the beach has them because who wants to look like a lobster after a quick dip. Another way to stay cool when  you have had enough of the sun is to make sure you pack a cover up that is nice and light but covers up enough so you don't catch too much sun and the one that caught my eye was also from Fig Leaves.

This super glam maxi still shows a peak at the killer bikini and has a sultry slit up the front if like me your pins always need that extra bit of sun. I love the goth glamour of this cover up and can already see the wistful instagram picture with it blowing in the cool breeze. Can you tell I am already there with my coconut cocktail? This cover up screams Grecian glamour and I adore the rose gold eyelet detailing on the shoulders and waist. Simple but classic! I also noticed that there is a matching bikini if you are all about coordinating.

When you watch the movies all these beach babes have huge heels on but pray do tell me how far do they get on the sand? Yes bare feet is an option but have you ever walked on super hot sand ouchie give your feet a little protection from the heat and keep them cool in a pretty dainty sandal. I love these pearl detailed wide fitting sandals from Sole Diva. Simple flip flops just will not do when we can have a bit of sparkle. You know what is coming next....

If we are already serving gothic glam we may as well bring the coven realness with a huge hat which is also practical because we need to keep our heads protected especially in extreme heats! I am a huge fan of a big floppy hat and you can even use it to fan yourself after if you get way too hot. There was so much to choose from I could have picked lots of cute things for a day at the beach. Don't forget to top off the look with some big sun glasses and you will need a bag to carry all those essential in.

Have you been on your holidays yet? what did you wear?

Adventuring In Style: Ways To See The World That Don’t Require A Backpack

Hey Cats,

I'm not saying that there is anything wrong with backpacking. Quite the contrary, in fact, backpacking is a wonderful and exciting way to see this fascinating world we live on. It's just sometimes a girl needs a little luxury, and there is nothing wrong with that. That is why have put together this guide to seeing the world in style. So read on for some super stylish travel suggestions.

Luxury Safari In Africa

One super stylish travel suggestion for seeing the world includes booking a place on a luxury safari. Some great locations for this include Mundulea Reserve, Namibia and the Ruaha National Park, Tanzania.  Visiting Africa in this way, instead of roughing it out in the bush, means you get to stay in exclusive village style accommodation. Accommodation that has private pools, resident chefs, and rooms that are kitted out with everything you desire for your a comfortable stay.

That means you can relax as if you were on a resort style holiday in the evening. Then when it comes to heading out on safari during the day time, you are refreshed and ready to appreciate the actual adventure part itself to its fullest. The adventure that is a once in a lifetime chance to get up close and personal with some of the world's most exotic animals. Such as, depending on the location that you choose, giraffes, lions, and antelope. All in their natural habitats, and if that doesn't qualify as an adventure, I don't know what will!

Hire a Yacht In Greece

Something else to consider if you have that wanderlust but want to sate it in style is hiring a private boat and hopping between the Greek islands.  Depending on how much you are willing to spend you could get one that comes with a bar, a hot tub, sleeping quarters and a full crew! Hiring a yacht also means that you can tour the local area by sea.  Island hopping between Santorini, Mykonos, Ios, and Paros. As well as the other smaller islands in between.

This usually includes stopping at the larger population centres to moor when you want the buzz of a town or to experience nightlife in shore. While spending the time in between sunbathing on deck and swimming in the bright blue, crystal clear ocean. As well as and trying your hand at water-sports activities direct from the boat. All this while sipping a Martini, or the refreshment of your choice. Now that is luxurious!

Crusin’ Around Asia

You can also see the world in style by booking a place on one of the Bolsover Cruise Club packages from Singapore to Southampton. Imagine it, you start your journey in the East visiting Singapore for a few nights in a five-star hotel like the Mandarin Oriental. Then sail the high seas visiting countries including Malaysia, Srilanka, and India. Before stopping off in Dubai and then heading home along a route that takes you via Jorden, Cyprus, Italy, Spain and finally to the back to the UK.

All of this while experiencing the luxury of a cruise liner like the Cunard Queen Mary 2. A ship that on which, you can expect to have access to things such as a pool, hot tubs, a planetarium, and a huge library. The largest, in fact, on any boat! But you also have the convenience of being taken from place to place while being able to relax. Then when you get to the locations on your itinerary like Kuala Lumpur in Malaysia and Aqaba for Petra, Jordan. The place where the legendary city hewed from the rock is located, you will be rested enough to appreciate all that they have to offer. In fact, despite the whole trip lasting 40 days, it may seem like it all over too fast, because it was such an easy and relaxed experience.

Glamping In the Switzerland

Where better to glamp, that is glamorously camp, than in the beautiful clean and pure nature of Switzerland? There you can hire a tent lodge by the night. So you can enjoy the sleeping under canvas experience that is both luxurious and brings you closer to nature.

In camping sites that offer such accommodation you can often expect proper beds, and options for heating in case it gets a little chilly in the night. As well as real bathrooms and running water. No holes dug in the ground for you! Other benefits can even include fresh eggs from resident hens, that you get to collect yourself as part of the adventure. Of course, staying in a venue such as this can make a great one night experience, as part of a wider tour of the area. Or why not use it as a base in which to explore the locality in more depth. Where you will find all sorts of exciting and adventurous activities. Such as visiting the Lang Glacier and ascending to the top of the Jungfrau by train or cable car.

Living the Hotel Life in America

America has some pretty stunning hotels to experience, and none more so than the ones on offer in Las Vegas, Nevada. Of course, there are levels of hotels, and some are definitely better than others. Although as you are in the midst of one of the most bonkers man-made playgrounds every build, why not go the whole hog and treat yourself to somewhere super swish?

That means avoiding locals like the Luxor and going for the newer and most up to date hotels like the Encore and the Wynne instead. There you can rent a plush suite with living space in which to relax and get ready for what will, no doubt, be some pretty big nights out on the town. Of course, the uber swish suites, the one with pools are saved as complementary benefits for the casino; high rollers. So if you are feeling a little flush, keep splashing the cash and maybe just maybe you’ll get comped a truly outrageous room to stay in too. Something that will truly mean you will see the world in style, as very few folks ever get to experience the inside of such suites.

Pride In Your Post Code- Manchester #Postcodepride

Hey Cats,

I took the big move recently and went from being a Birmingham grrrl to a country grrrl and wow are things different but now my nearest big city is Manchester and I am falling in love with it. I can literally jump on a bus to Manchester these days and be from the heart of the countryside right into a big bustling city again so I wanted to share the things I have grown to love as I have learnt about Manchester. You can learn more about your post code and others using PCA predict   which can also help you find any of the places I mention.

Like my beloved Brum the city of Manchester if built on Industry. Manchester was once a very small town and through manufacturing during the industrial revolution some of the beautiful grand looking buildings were created and the bustling wealth grew. As the city grew the industry of Manchester grew and evolved and now it is know for mass success in finances, hospitality, media and arts. There is so much to see and do right on your doorstep from museums to a huge shopping centre packed full of your favourite places to covet. I love going shopping in Manc ...I mean come on have you seen the size of the Primark? I could get lost in there alone! I actually go shopping with my Mama a lot in this beautiful city and never come home disappointed...dare I even say it is a much better shopping experience than Birmingham. Shocking I know but there are just so many more shops and things just seem to flow easier making walking around shops, grabbing a bite to eat and finding transport so much easier. There are lots of fab little vintage places to browse for a retro loving grrrl like me that is a dream come true.

Lets talk culture because I love a good night out or a walk around a mind blowing museum. Manchester has a lot to offer from theatres to opera houses. I have always wanted to go to the opera in fact it is on my hit list now I just have to convince the Mr! I love the theatre and there are at least 3 I can think of to choose from so there is always something to go watch. I am keeping my eyes open for Hairspray as I am yet to catch it and as a die hard John Waters fan it has ti be done and any excuse for a night out in the big city. There are lots of museums to go to and some of them are even free so if shopping isn't your thing you can drop your mates off at the shops and soak up a bit of culture for yourself. I am a big believer of not all art being in galleries and often cities become the gallery themselves. I love going street art spotting and Manchester has some amazingly talented artists.

Media is massively on the rise in Manchester with a huge media hub for growing film and TV people. With the BBC having a huge base in Manchester now more opportunity for young people to jump up the ranks is being created. For me as someone who worked in the media field for 10 years this is really exciting and I only wish when I was looking at a media career path such an amazing facility had been available. I am always amazed at the growth of any industry but especially in awe when it is related to media.

We can't talk about Manchester without talking about the music scene. Music is life to me and I have been to soooo many gigs in Manchester over the years and hopefully will go to even more. There are lots of venues big and small to choose from. Personally I prefer the small gigs they just feel so much more personal and I just dig the vibe more. I like checking out small spots and discovering new bands on the up especially when they are local. Get out and support your local musicians because they work so hard and are under appreciated. The music scene in Manchester is electric and can't be missed just add a gig in Manchester to your list of things to do this year and you will not be disappointed,

Have you been to Manchester recently? What is the your #Postcodepride let me know in the comments below or send me a tweet lets celebrate!
