Style XL Birmingham Plus Size Fashion Weekend

Hey Sweethearts!

If you follow my You tube antics you may have already seen my vlog adventures at Style XL but it was so awesome and such a lot of hard work went into it that I think it totally deserves another mention.

This is the second year Style XL has run for now. I sadly missed last years which took place in the East Midlands and had lots of fabulous plus size bloggers modelling at. I totally kicked myself after seeing a ton of amazing photos and lots of people raving about the amazing time they were having. So when I heard this years would be in Birmingham I knew I had to go and even better the lovely Leah was looking for a helping hand so I put myself forward for the volunteer team. This is what I wore on the day....

Not only did I volunteer but I dragged my mama Kaos along too. She has a fantastic time and got stuck in helping organise all the models and even hunted down a full length mirror so they could make sure they looked even more awesome for the catwalk so big props to her there! I really enjoyed the new experience of working with models backstage and they were all so lovely. Mega props to Sam, Chiara, and Sian who were up for donning the most awesome of clothes. Were super friendly and positive and a dream to work with. All the models were great though and looked amazing.

There were catwalks throughout the day featuring women of all shapes and sizes showing how different a spectrum of beautiful bodies there are in the plus size community. It was truly inspiring to see beautiful clothes on such a variety of models, The men even had a go! You can see some of the catwalks in my vlog.

What else was there? I can hear you cry with excitement! Lots of shopping ....brands like Yours clothing, Curvy Kate, Clairebellas closet, Topsy Turvy , Scarlett and Jo, Nicki Rockets and many more. I think it was really nice to meet some of the brands up close rather than across the wonderful Internet. Sadly I didn't get to speak to many but the ones I did were lovely and Scarlett and Jo had people snapping up bargains left, right and centre.

The best thing about the whole of Style XL has got be the atmosphere. There were ladies squealing and hugging each other. A lovely warm buzzing atmosphere and so many amazing dresses. Again I regret not being able to talk to many people but it just shows I really want to get to know more of the plus community and give them all a huge hugs. Leah did an amazing job and I just want to say a huge thank you! Keep your eyes peeled for more news on style XL! There was also tons more fab stuff on the weekend like a model pageant and yoga but sadly I was only there for the day. If you missed my video you c an check it out here!

Did you go?

Good Things - Manuka Honey Radiance Face Mask

Hey Loves,

It is no secret what today's post is about. If you saw my last empties video you would have seen I mentioned an amazing face mask I used recently and I wanted to tell you a bit more.

I received a sample of the Good Things Manuka Honey Radiance Facemask  in one of my last You Beauty boxes. I hadn't heard of Good Things before and am always excited to try new things. I try and make sure I put facemasks into my skincare routine at least once every two weeks. This works for me but means I get bored of all the same of face masks all the time. My favourites are usually lush masks which I have spoke about on the blog before. I love honey so this mask sounded super appealing to me.

Manuka honey is blended with white clay  and beeswax to make a brightening and refreshing mask. Straight off the smell is amazing. If you're not a fan of honey  then you are not going to want to smother your lovely face in this but to me honey is heavenly.

A pale oatmeal colour with a real easy consistency to work with. You only need a small amount to do the job and honestly my tiny sample lasted me 6 uses! A full sized 100ml comes in at £5.99 but I think that is really reasonable considering the amount of use I had from a mere 0.5 fl oz. Made with natural ingredients too so suitable for vegetarians and environment lovers. The mask left my skin feeling hydrated and people even commented on how great my skin looked. I will be checking out more from the Good Things range in the future.

Have you tried anything from Good Things?

A - Z Of Inspirational Women- J is for

Hey you fierce lot,

We are bringing inspirational women up to J today and I have some kick ass ladies featured today. Lets kick off with some music to go with the article and kick off our first inspirational J.

Janis Joplin, need I say anything?....I will though, a legend in her own right. Joplin grew up on greats like Billie Holiday. Heavily influenced by the blues scene Janis channelled this in her music and rebellious nature. A true barefooted Woodstock hippy with a free spirit, Joplin brought us great hits like. 'Down On Me' , 'Kosmic Blues' and of course 'Mercedez Benz'.  Sadly leaving this world too soon but leaving a lasting impact with her music.

Growing up when girls wanted to be the Spice Girls or Rachel from Friends I just didn't relate. For me it was the Lunachicks, Courtney Love and of course Jessika from Jack Off Jill. She was just too cool to many misunderstood girls. The dark music spoke to me in a time I needed it and in my teenage angst only Jessika understood. I know this was the same feeling for many a girl because dancing to JOJ in dirty rock clubs was like an instant bond in sisterhood. JOJ have performed a one off reunion show and we can only hope this gives them a thirst to tour. Jessika does still front the band scarring who are also awesome so be sure to check them out. Also dipping her toe into the art world with some great pieces.

For all you sports fans out there Jackie Mitchell is a woman to take inspiration from. Working hard playing a sport she loved paid off when she became one of the first female pitchers in professional baseball. She even struck out Babe Ruth and Lou Gehrig in an exhibition game with the New York Yankees. In the 1930s this was a huge achievement for any baseball player and even better that it was a young woman.

Comedy is often a male dominated place but this was no match for Jo Brand. Starting her career in comedy late with the nickname 'the sea monster' which I can only imagine was because she is as fierce as the amazing Ursula. After a terrible starting gig being fat shamed and heckled she didn't give up and who is laughing now after being guest on many popular series like QI and hosting her own Jo Brand Through The Cakehole. Not stopping there Jo is also a published author and a very funny woman.

If you are a regular reader you will already know my love of American Horror Story. Jessica Lange makes American Horror Story truly phenomenal. The thought of the next series being without her just makes me shake my head. No stranger to the screen Jessica has won many well deserved awards for performances. Featuring in the 1976 remake of King Kong, Big fish and many more brilliant films. Playing a true villain in American Horror Story when off screen that is so far from the truth. A humanitarian who does a lot of work for children's charities.

Who are your inspirational J's? You can check out the other posts in the series by clicking on the banner to the side of this article on the main page.
