The low down on your bridesmaids and why you need them

Hey Cats,

Picking your bridesmaids can be stressful. Of course, you want to have a laugh with them during the stressful pre-wedding months, but you want them to be responsible enough to organise a good hen-do too! A 2016 survey conducted by hitched, revealed that brides have on average 3 bridesmaids by their side on the big day. But what are the different types of bridesmaids and what makes them so great?

A wedding venue in Bedfordshire, The Waterfront Hotel, has created this fun guide!

The emotional bridesmaid

She’s your bestie for life and you never go anywhere without each other but can someone tell her to stop crying? She’s ruining the photos…
As soon as you walked down stairs the morning of your wedding day, her tears began. This bridesmaid is the one to consult when you’re trying to write your wedding vows – she’ll know all the right words to say. She’s definitely a valued member of your bridal party — just don’t spend too much on her makeup…

The organised bridesmaid

There’s only so much organisation that you can do yourself before you explode…This bridesmaid is here to help. With 75 daytime and 101 evening guests attending the average wedding, you need someone to help keep things in check on the big day whilst you mingle with family and friends.

This bridesmaid is just one of those people who always seem to have it together. She bought you your own wedding planning book but probably used it more than you. This bridesmaid will be the first to make sure everyone is the right place for photos and gathering guests around the dancefloor for your first dance. Once the wedding day is over, you’ll wonder how you could’ve done it without her!

The wedding expert

This bridesmaid is an expert in the big day, she’s a serial bridesmaid and wedding guest and knows all there is to know. She can spot the warning signs of a wedding faux pas before they occur – perhaps someone at the party is getting too tipsy or she knows that two guests don’t get along and shouldn’t be placed together in the table plan…
She doesn’t need to attend the wedding rehearsal, she knows just where she should be at the right time. In fact, you’re likely to be asking her some questions to see how other brides have done it. She knows the local suppliers that you should get in touch with, and the ones to avoid – an ideal friend to have around pre-wedding!

The funny one

You should put this bridesmaid in charge of your hen-do. She’s creative and hilarious and will organize a night that’s guaranteed to get your bridesmaids to know one another.
Some brides tend to go for a romantic, emotional speech at the wedding breakfast but let your guests have some entertainment! You should let your comedienne bridesmaid make a speech on your big day (or at least let her help write it) – she’s got the funniest memories to share and has a way with words that is guaranteed to make your guests giggle.

The social media expert

This bridesmaid knows all there is to know about the world of social media and wants to let the world know that she’s attending! She’s been stalking the photos of her newlywedded Facebook friends to find some of the best suppliers around for flowers and décor. She’s set up a hashtag of your surnames after the engagement party and has been using it when adding photos of your wedding planning progress ever since – a perfect memory bank for you to look back on.
She’s the one that you should go to if you want to set up your personalised Snapchat location filter and will show all your guests how to use it. You should warn her first if you’re wanting a private affair though because she’ll have your first dance on a live stream and will have Instagrammed your wedding rings before they’re even on your finger…
